Lincoln Park man hits several while fleeing cops

41-year old Anthony McCoy of Lincoln Park went on a wild spree throughout Chicago on Sunday beginning around 1 PM.  First, McCoy was seen running a red light at LaSalle and Ontario and hitting another vehicle.  After fleeing the scene, he then hit another vehicle at Grand Ave. and Halsted St..

McCoy began to flee the second accident as well, but stopped near 900 W. Grand Ave. due to damage to his white Lexus.  He then began to attempt to enter passing vehicles.  After several failed attempts, a Near North District police officer tried to arrest him.  McCoy was able to break free and jumped into the police officer’s SUV.  While driving off, McCoy hit the police officer and another one who had come to help, before running into a fire hydrant.  Police officers were then able to successfully handcuff and arrest McCoy with the help of a passerby.

McCoy is facing several charges including, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and criminal damage to property, reckless driving, and driving uninsured.
