The dangers of being uninsured
Posted on February 9th, 2012
It is very common that after a tragic car accident occurs, it is discovered that one of the vehicles’ drivers has very little or no car insurance. If that is the case, the injured persons involved in the crash seek out underinsured-motorist coverage from their own insurance company to compensate for the medical expenses relating to the accident.
The Appellate Court of Illinois faced a case called Columbia Mutual Insurance Company v. Herrin, in which the court had to determine the amount of underinsured-motorist coverage each person could receive from their insurance company. This can be a very difficult decision, and is one that can be avoided with proper auto insurance coverage.

Cell-phone ban coming to Illinois
Posted on January 6th, 2012
On Tuesday, State Senator John Cullerton (D-Chicago) stated that there is a strong possibility of a cell phone ban on its way to the state of Illinois.
It has been illegal since 2005 to drive while using a cell phone in the city of Chicago. And on New Years Day, the state banned large truck and bus drivers from using a cell phone unless it is hands-free.
Last month, the National Transportation Safety Board made suggestions that cell-phone use both hands-free and handheld should be banned across the country. State Senator Cullerton said, ”It’s the distraction in talking to someone that’s not in the car with you. It’s not what’s in your hand, it’s what’s in your head.” It is unclear when this new law would be added, but driver safety has been a very popular issue amongst the state legislature.

New law in Illinois emphasizes importance of insurance against uninsured motorists
Posted on October 20th, 2011
According to Online Auto Insurance, a new law in Illinois emphasizes the importance of drivers having insurance for damages caused by uninsured motorists. As it is a requirement in the state of Illinois, it is extremely important that drivers in Illinois inquire about uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage when researching car insurance policies.
Policies for uninsured/underinsured motorists are made to protect drivers in the event they are involved in a collision with a motorist who is either uninsured or whose liability limits are too low and therefore cannot cover paying for damages and injuries. These policies also cover damages for hit-and-run accidents.
In 2009, the Insurance Research Council estimated that 15 percent of all motorists in Illinois were uninsured.

Anti-theft technologies reduce car theft, insurance rates
Posted on August 15th, 2011
Car thefts in the U.S. are on track to reach their lowest level since 1967 due to improved anti-theft technologies. The FBI attributes a 7.2 percent decrease in auto thefts in 2010 to the increased use and success of anti-theft devices.
Many car insurance providers offer discounts to drivers who reduce their chances of car theft by installing an anti-theft device in their vehicle. Insurers in Illinois, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, New Mexico, Minnesota, Louisiana, Florida, and Kentucky are required to give discounts to drivers with anti-theft devices.
In addition, many insurers in other states will voluntarily give discounts to drivers who install anti-theft technology.
