Easy ways to save on teen car insurance

Posted on May 1st, 2012 No Comments

If your child has recently started driving, you know how expensive it can be to purchase car insurance for them. While there’s really no way around paying more for covering your teen, there are many ways to keep the increase as small as possible.

- It may be cheaper to add your child to your own car insurance policy that purchasing an individual policy. That way all your discounts you’ve earned also apply to your teen.
- Check to see if your insurance company offers good student discounts. Students that make a B or higher are eligible for the discount.
- You can save a lot of money if your new driver takes a defensive driving course. Insurance companies offer lower premiums and your child can learn valuable driving techniques.
- Shop around for the best prices. While your insurance policy may be the least expensive for you, it could be extremely costly for teen drivers.

Nationwide cell phone ban while driving proposed

Posted on December 15th, 2011 No Comments

The National Highway Traffic Safety Board announced on Tuesday a proposal across the country to ban all cell phone use while driving.

In August 2010, a car accident in Gray Summit, MO killed two people and injured 38 others.  It was later found that prior to the accident, the 19 year old driver who was responsible for the accident sent 11 text messages in 11 minutes.  This incident was the impetus for the Board’s proposal.

“More than 3,000 people lost their lives last year in distraction-related accidents…no call, no text, no update, is worth a human life,” stated Chairwoman Deborah A.P. Hersman.

This proposal sends a strong message to legislatures responsible for changing laws regarding cell phone use.

National Drunk Driving Prevention Month has begun

Posted on December 2nd, 2011 No Comments

The prevention of drunk driving is the key focus during the month of December.

In Illinois, it is considered illegal to knowingly permit an intoxicated driver to get behind the wheel. If that person were to be pulled over and arrested for drunk driving, the passenger could be arrested as well. This violation can result in a one-year prison sentence as well as a $2,500 fine.

Drunk driving accidents increase during the month of December due to holiday parties associated with an increased level of drinking. It is important, especially in the state of Illinois, to plan ahead for a designated driver before going out this holiday season.

Accidents happen every day. It is important to have car insurance to be protected. If you are in the market for car insurance in Illinois, please contact an Illinois auto insurance agent at Insure On The Spot today by calling 1-888-972-SAVE today.

The organization distributes a five-star rating to states that have shown exemplary efforts against drunk driving. Five states have qualified for this rating including; Illinois, Arizona, Nebraska, Utah and Kansas.

There are five different standards that the states have to put into place to earn this award. One of these consists of setting up sobriety checkpoints throughout the state. Another standard involves license removal of individuals who have been charged with driving while intoxicated.

Pay-as-you-go policies thrive in struggling economy

Posted on September 19th, 2011 No Comments

Statistics show that more people opted for pay-as-you-go car insurance policies during the economic recession.  Several car insurance providers responded to this trend by expanding their pay-as-you-go programs.

In a survey of drivers, 24 percent of drivers said that they would consider driving less to pay less for their car insurance coverage.  Another 35 percent of survey participants said that they would consider driving less depending on how much money they could save.  20 percent reported that they could not drive less and 21 percent said they would not consider driving less in order to pay less for car insurance.

Pay-as-you-go insurance policies allow drivers to save up to 30 percent on their car insurance by determining how much a driver pays based on the number of miles they drive.  These policies also take into account the time of day that a policyholder drives, accident histories, and traffic citations.

If you are looking for a more affordable car insurance policy, contact the Illinois auto insurance agents of Insure on the Spot at 1-888-972-SAVE to learn more about how we can help you.
