Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium is the site of this season’s Super Bowl XLVI game.  The New England Patriots will play the New York Giants.  Both teams played against each other in the 2008 Super Bowl game, and the Giants defeated the Patriots that year.

Bill Belichick, head coach of the Patriots, and quarterback Tom Brady, are back for their fifth Super Bowl as a coach-quarterback pair in 11 seasons.

New York Giants upset the second-seeded San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship and also defeated top-seeded Green Bay Packers.  The Giants beat the Patriots in the regular season game and are hoping to do the same on Sunday.

It has been illegal since 2005 to drive while using a cell phone in the city of Chicago.  And on New Years Day, the state banned large truck and bus drivers from using a cell phone unless it is hands-free.

Last month, the National Transportation Safety Board made suggestions that cell-phone use both hands-free and handheld should be banned across the country.  State Senator Cullerton said,  ”It’s the distraction in talking to someone that’s not in the car with you. It’s not what’s in your hand, it’s what’s in your head.”  It is unclear when this new law would be added, but driver safety has been a very popular issue amongst the state legislature.

In August 2010, a car accident in Gray Summit, MO killed two people and injured 38 others.  It was later found that prior to the accident, the 19 year old driver who was responsible for the accident sent 11 text messages in 11 minutes.  This incident was the impetus for the Board’s proposal.

“More than 3,000 people lost their lives last year in distraction-related accidents…no call, no text, no update, is worth a human life,” stated Chairwoman Deborah A.P. Hersman.

This proposal sends a strong message to legislatures responsible for changing laws regarding cell phone use.
